Using APA Format

Basic APA Formatting

When using APA7, you should: 
  • Double-space text
  • Set margins to 1 inch on every side
  • Indent all paragraphs by .5 inch (except for Abstract)
  • Review the rules for Level 1-5 Headings
  • Only include a running head if specifically requested by the instructor
  • Use a block quote for any direct quote 40 words or more
  • Use an appropriate font:
    • 12-pt. Times New Roman
    • 11-pt. Calibri
    • 11-pt. Arial
    • 11-pt. Georgia
  • Use a title page that includes:
    • Title in all bold using title case capitalization
    • Your name
    • Institution and department name
    • Course title
    • Instructor's name
    • Assignment due date
  • Include a References page at the end, with References title in all bold and centered
  • List citations in alphabetical order 
  • Give each citation a hanging indent
  • Include the DOI at the end of each citation (if DOI is not available, do not include a URL)
