Research Starters

About Research Starters

Research Starters can be a useful way to get an overview and background information on a particular topic. They can be found using Library Discover Search.

While not every Research Starter will have the same format, many will offer a glossary of related terms and a bibliography that you can use for further research. 

Below is an example of the layout and content of a Research Starter. 

Use the Listen widget to listen to the article or download it as an MP3 file. Use the Tools on the right to cite, email, or print the article.

To Locate a Research Starter 

  1. Go to the library's website.
  2. Under Start Your Research, type in the keyword that best describes your topic.
    Under Start Your Research, type in the keyword that best describes your topic.
  3. If prompted, log in with your UMass Global username and password.
  4. If there is a Research Starter available for your topic, it will appear above the search results. Look for a yellow lightbulb. 
    If there is a Research Starter available for your topic, it will appear above the search results
