Academic Integrity and Plagiarism at UMass Global
Plagiarism occurs when you use someone else's ideas or work without giving the original creator proper credit.
Research involves a systematic exploration of a topic or subject with the intent of making contributions to an area of study, drawing conclusions, or making decisions based on the evidence presented. When you quote, summarize or paraphrase information found in books, articles, or web pages, you must acknowledge the original author. Examples of plagiarism includes turning in another person's paper or project as your own and paraphrasing sections of various works without citing the source. It can also involve copying and pasting text from websites into your paper without identifying the original author.
UMass Global librarians created the Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism page to provide information about maintaining academic integrity throughout your research.
