Interlibrary Loan Frequently Asked Questions

What is interlibrary loan?

Interlibrary loan is a service that allows users to receive articles and other research materials digitally when their own library does not already own the material.

What type of materials can I request through interlibrary loan?

How long does it take to receive an article?

Since other libraries process and electronically deliver articles using WorldShare ILL on our behalf, requests may take 3 - 7 business days to fulfill. Make sure to allow yourself adequate time when requesting articles through WorldShare.

How many articles can I request?

We don't have a limit on how many articles you can request, but keep in mind that we will send requests out to our partner libraries in batches, and we reserve the right to wait to request some if you request many in a day (more than 5). Before submitting a request, follow the suggestions on the Interlibrary Loan Overview page for obtaining articles through the library's databases and the open web.

Who do I contact if I have trouble opening the article?

You can contact a librarian by sending an email to askalibrarian@umassglobal.libanswers.com or by filling out the question form on the Ask A Librarian page

I haven't received the article. What should I do?

Check your spam folder. If you're using Gmail, sometimes the notification will appear in another tab, such as Promotions or Updates. If the item appears there, be sure to add the sender to your safe list.

If the article is not in your spam folder, contact a librarian for further assistance.
