Once EndNote is installed on your computer, you will be able to create a library where all your references will be stored. To create a new library, go to the File menu and select New.
You can choose the default file name, My EndNote Library, or type in a new name, and click Save.
You now have a new EndNote library in which to save all your reference citations!
To save citation information from the Global Search tool, go to the article record and click on the Export button in the Tools menu on the right side of the record.
Click on the images to view a larger version.
The Export Manager screen will pop-up. Choose the option "Direct Export in RIS Format" and click Save.
Depending on your browser, you may need to select the file to open it in EndNote. For Chrome, the file will pop-up at the bottom of the screen with a file name ending in .ris. In Firefox, you will need to go to the Downloads tool.
Click on the file and it should appear in your EndNote library under both Imported References and Unfiled.
Note: Although these instructions are for the Global Search tool, other databases will provide similar options for exporting. Make sure to choose the option to export in RIS format.
EndNote allows you to organize your references into Groups, where you can collect all your research on a topic for a project or paper. Individual items can be added to multiple groups. To start a new group, go to the Groups menu and select Create Group.
Type in the name of your new group.
If you already have references in your library, you can now drag them into your new group.
